-          The Independence Historical Museum presents New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music, through September 28th. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

-          Art Central in Carthage presents A Sense of Place, oil paintings and charcoal drawings by Joplin artist Frank Young, August 29th through September 14th, at Hyde Gallery.

-          The Chanute Art Gallery is celebrating its 35th birthday. On display is a large portion of its permanent core collection, through August 31st. the Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm.

-          Miami Little Theater presents Disney’s live musical Beauty and the Beast, September 4th through 6th at 7pm and September 7th at 2pm at the historic Colman Theater in downtown Miami.

-          The Coffeyville Cultural Arts Council is hosting auditions for new members in the Coffeyville Community Children’s Choir, August 26th and 28th, in the music room at Coffeyville Community Elementary School, from 3:30 to 5:30. Any child that enjoys singing and is in the 3rd through 6th grade may audition.

-          Joplin Little Theater is hosting auditions for Monday Always Leads to Murder, August 25th and 26th, at 7pm. The director is looking for 7 men and 6 women, age 30 and up.

-          As part of its International Film Festival, Missouri Southern State University presents Run Lola Run, Thursday August 28th at 9pm, in the dormitory courtyard.

 

-          Joplin Little Theater presents Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun, The “anything you can do I can do better”, love story between legendary sharp shooter Annie Oakley and Frank Butler, through August 24th.

-          The Bella Vista Community Concert Band will perform August 26th and September 9th, in Blowing Springs Park in Bella Vista at 7pm.

-          The Pittsburg State University Art Department presents two exhibits… Ties that Bind, drawings by Randy Simmons, in the University Gallery, through September 17th and Vignettes – Digital images and drawings by Steven A Ramsey, in the Harry Krug Gallery, August 25th through September 27th.

-          The August exhibit at the Post Art Library in Joplin features Day of the Dead, prints by Fred Mintert and paintings by Amber Mintert.

-          The Spiva Art Gallery at Missouri Southern State University presents, German prints ranging from the Renaissance to expressionism, on loan from the Springfield Art Museum, August 25th through September 19th.

-          And the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, in Springdale, Arkansas,  presents the Ozark Voices Exhibit featuring 211 interviews from people in Northwest Arkansas as part of the National StoryCorps  Project, through January 17th, 2009.
