The health system hasn’t said why either of the patient's portals were offline, however, cyberattacks involved data of more than 40 million individual patients in 2023, marking a 60% increase year-over-year for the first six months.

One of two patient portals operated by Freeman Health came back online late Tuesday morning, however, Joplin’s largest employer isn’t saying why the websites were offline.

Online portals where hospital patients can log in, schedule and view appointments, and view test results are an important part of any health system's operations. Even more so when operating 64 locations across Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

Late last week Freeman patient portals,hospital.myfreemenhealth.com and clinic.myfreemanhealth.com were both unavailable for users to log in, although it doesn’t appear that the downtime was scheduled. Commonly companies will schedule internet and maintenance for the overnight hours to prevent customer inconvenience.

Late Tuesday morning, service was restored to hospital.myfreeman.com and patients were able to log into the site.

While clinic.myfreemanhealth.com remained offline. Also Tuesday, on its website Freemanhealth.com, the company updated its timeline for when services could be restored to both websites.

Previously the message said that services would be fully restored later this week, however, the message now reads that clinic.myfreemanhealth.com could be back online late next week.

According to the Institute for Security and Technology, at least 299 hospitals in the US have suffered ransomware attacks this year.

Representatives from Freeman Health have declined comment regarding the situation.
