Traveling This Summer? The BBB Suggests Considering What Could Go Wrong Before It Does

Booking a trip is only the first of many steps to ensure a successful and safe trip whether it’s in another state or another country. While you never plan to get sick on a trip, whether it’s a car accident or the flu, trying to see a doctor could be a very different experience if you're traveling. The BBB encourages travelers to think about what could go wrong ahead of time.

While the end of summer and the start of the new school year is on the horizon, there is still plenty of time to travel. If you are planning a trip, the Better Business Bureau encourages you to do your homework before leaving your house.

KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

Making summer travel plans can be both exciting and a lot to consider if something goes array while you're away. Things that are easy to take care of if you’re near your house can be a hassle to resolve if you're traveling either here in the US or internationally.

For example, if you lose your driver's license at home, you can make an appointment to get a new one quickly. But if you lose your license when traveling overseas it could lead to headaches if it's required for identification. Regional Director of the Better Business Bureau Pamela Hernandez has this advice if you misplace your license.

“You want to get to the airport early, talk to TSA. See what identification you have on you. That will let you fly that will let you get home.”

Other forms of identification could be accepted such as your passport, employment, military, student, tribal, and veterans' ID just to name a few. Losing an ID is just one of many issues that can cause you stress when traveling. The Better Business Bureau has an exhaustive list of topics and plan tips at BBB.org/travel.
