While driving down an East Texas country road I spotted this scene. The autumn trees and the late afternoon sun made these golden bales of hay shine just a little bit more. Fortunately I had my camera with me. (c) James Q. Eddy Jr.

KRPS is hiring one intern for an eight-week student worker position.

The summer intern will assist the newsroom in daily news reporting, production, and writing. They will learn audio tracking, editing, and producing, as well as what constitutes a good news story. Occasionally, they will have the opportunity to shadow an on-air host. This intern is expected to create a news story at least once a week and understand what resonates with our target audience.

The intern will be paid $8/hr and will be a ‘student worker’ for KRPS.

KRPS can be flexible with work and school schedules if needed. But interns are expected to work at least 15 hours a week.

The intern will see how a small public radio station works and functions. They will work with the ‘small but mighty’ staff to learn basic journalism skills – researching, a sense of curiosity, confidence in interviewing, and writing. We hope the intern walks away with a passion for any kind of journalism because of their time at KRPS.

Apply using this form by May 10th. The KRPS team will evaluate applications and conduct interviews the following week, either by Zoom or in person.

Qualifications:

  • Finished Reporting and Intro to Audio/Audio Visual classes
  • Be a Pittsburg State University student
  • Interested in journalism
