While driving down an East Texas country road I spotted this scene. The autumn trees and the late afternoon sun made these golden bales of hay shine just a little bit more. Fortunately I had my camera with me. (c) James Q. Eddy Jr.

Childsplay's production of "Maddi's Fridge"

Maddi and Sofia are best friends who do everything together—playing in the park, racing at school, and sharing secrets. But when Sofia discovers that Maddi has no food in her fridge, she faces a big dilemma: she made a promise to keep Maddi’s secret, but Sofia can’t stop worrying. As she sneaks food into her backpack, Sofia learns that while fish and eggs are great for people, they’re not so great for backpacks. Based on Lois Brandt’s beloved book, "Maddi’s Fridge" is brought to life by Childsplay, a nationally recognized theatre company known for creating strikingly original productions for young audiences and families. This performance is part of Connect2Culture's Ignite Series 2025–2026. Doors open at 1:30pm. Tickets may be purchased at connect2culture.org, (417) 621-9824, or at the C2C box office inside the Cornell Complex (Tue–Sat | 1–5pm). Tickets: Kids $5, Adults $20.
