Staff at KRPS 89.9 - Four States Public Radio are planning an open house for the station from 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 to showcase its new location in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts on the campus of Pittsburg State University.
KRPS is an NPR-member station with a listening area covers the four corners of Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. The relocation — part of a larger, multi-year project focused on the Bicknell Center’s southwest corner — is the most substantial change in the station's 37-year history. This extensive project also encompassed a remodel of the center's art gallery.
The new location gives KRPS the opportunity to have increased visibility and accessibility by Pittsburg State students and visitors to the Bicknell Center.
A move of this magnitude requires high technical detail and teamwork. Edward Wagoner with Pitt State’s Information Technology Service and KRPS engineers Jerry Tibbetts and Art Morris worked together for months to overcome countless soft and hardware complications for multiple systems to work in harmony, noted station manager Fred Fletcher-Fierro.
In conjunction with KRPS’s second relocation at Pittsburg State since leaving Shirk Hall two years ago, the station has been working to purchase and install new systems and equipment — an upgrade from equipment that KRPS used daily for 25 years.
“The installation of the equipment is a huge upgrade and milestone for the station,” Fletcher-Fierro said. “We are grateful for the donors, supporters, and listeners throughout our 37-year history.”
