The Talking Heads Discussion Group meets on Friday mornings at 9 a.m. at the Pittsburg Public Library. Using The Great Courses Series from The Teaching Company, participants watch a 30-minute DVD lecture and then the floor opens for discussion. New participants are always welcome!

Also, 

Celebrate Earth Day with the Earth Day Sustainability Conference at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. It will be a campus and community-wide event bringing together partners and experts on environmental issues and education. It takes place Friday April 24 starting at 8:30.

Finally,

ArtCentral in Carthage presents their 2nd annual National Art Exhibition "Greetings from the Mother Road" . Enjoy an amazing collection of Route 66 art from across the country. The exhibition is now open, running through May 16. This year's theme is Greeting from the Mother Road: Celebrating 100 Years of Route 66.

The Big Spring Concert Series in Neosho is back for another season. This month they'll welcome a string duo, March to August. The duo is comprised of Derrick and Jodi Mears based out of the Ozark Mountains. The concert, taking place at Big Spring River in Neosho is Friday April 24 starting at 6:30 pm.

And..

Join Joplin Library staff as they welcome bestselling author Virginia Evans. Evans will present on writing and her book, The Correspondent, and briefly answer audience questions. No fee, registration, or library card is required to attend - all adults are welcome. It's taking place Tuesday April 28 at 6 pm.

Finally,

The non-profit Historic Murphysburg Preservation in Joplin hosts the second annual Murphysburg Treasure Hunt, a race to solve riddles, uncover clues, and explore the city's rich history. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026---rain or shine---in the west parking lot of Joplin City Hall, 602 S. Main Street.

April 19th, the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg is holding an outdoor worship service in honor of Earth Day. It’s open to the community and will start at 10 a.m. at the Drink Yard on North Broadway.

April 23rd, K-State Research and Extension will give a presentation on sustainable gardening at the Pittsburg Public Library. Starting at 5 p.m., attendees will learn how to grow a healthy garden while conserving resources and supporting the environment.

And on April 25th, the Literary Cat. Co. in Pittsburg is celebrating Independent Bookstore Day with extended hours. Nine local authors will also be at the store from 3 to 6 p.m., and a poetry reading will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

April 21st, the Joplin Public Library is holding another program for Joplin Reads Together. This time it’s a presentation on the history of epistolary fiction, which tells stories through a series of letters. The presentation will be at 6 p.m. in the library’s community room.

The George Washington Carver National Monument is hosting Art in the Park on April 25th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature kid-friendly activities, instructional workshops with pastels, natural dyes, pencil and more.

And also on April 25th, see “I Am, He Said,” a Neil Diamond tribute at the Cornell Complex in Joplin. The performance will feature hits like “Sweet Caroline,” “Cracklin’ Rosie” and “Forever in Blue Jeans.” That starts at 8 p.m.
