City employee wage increase plan inches forward in Joplin
After two special work sessions in April, in addition to two council meetings Joplin City Manager Nick Edwards attempted to get a wage increase plan passed on an emergency basis Monday but failed.

Missouri Attorney General's rules restricting transgender health care are blocked until May 15
A St. Louis County judge ruled that plaintiffs proved they would be harmed by the emergency rule restricting health care for both minors and adults. The court will also have to decide whether Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey can use a consumer protection law to regulate gender-affirming care.
COVID-19 helps sink Missouri life expectancy to four-decade low
In Missouri, the average person born in 2021 could expect to live to be 74.6 years old, a whole three years younger than the average age ten years ago. The state’s drop is part of a nationwide decline, though the life expectancy in Missouri is lower than the United States average.
South Korean art student eats banana that was part of an art installation
In artist Maurizio Cattelan work called "Comedian," a ripe banana is duct-taped to a wall. The student snagged the fruit and taped the peel back on after eating it.

St. Louis County judge continues to bar Missouri’s limits on transgender care
St. Louis County Circuit Judge Ellen Ribaudo granted a request from the Missouri chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal and their plaintiffs to extend the pause on Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey's rule limiting transgender care for another two weeks.
