MIAA basketball media day for Missouri Southern, women chosen to win conference

While we're in the midst of football season, the start of basketball season is just around the corner. The M I Double A held its basketball media in Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday. KRPS's Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

MIAA pre-season polls were released Tuesday, and Missouri Sothern's women's teams were chosen to win the league by both the coaches and media polls.
The Lions finished with an overall record of 24-7 last season, a 19-3 record in the MIAA, and earning their fourth appearance in program history to the NCAA Tournament. While MSSU's men's basketball team was selected to finish eighth by the coaches and seventh by the media poll.
The Lions finished 14-15 a season ago and were 11-11 in the MIAA. First-year men's head coach Sam McMahon says he knows how tough the MIAA is.
"I know how absolutely hard this league is and with great coaches and great players. So we're excited to compete against those guys. I just can't wait."
Missouri Southern women's basketball plays its first exhibition game on the road against Wichita State on November 1.
MSSU's men's team opens up their season, taking on Minnesota State at the KC Crossover Challenge in Kansas City on November 11. For 89 9 KRPS, I'm Fred Fletcher-Fierro
