For early risers, you can hear NPR’s Morning Edition now starting at 4 a.m. weekdays. In addition to live mid-day news starting at 11 a.m. with Here & Now and several new music shows including Mountain Stage and WFMT’s Jazz Network.

Effective today, KRPS welcomes The Jazz Network from WFMT. It’ll be broadcast Monday through Friday from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. Also Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Newscasts from NPR can be heard at one-minute past every hour.

Also, NPR’s Here & Now returns to the KRPS schedule effective Monday, June 30. The live program can be heard Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Recently, a listener favorite, Mountain Stage from NPR returned to the KRPS schedule. You can hear it weekly, Monday nights from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

If you’re a fan of Mountain Stage, American Routes, or Ozark Highlands Radio I strongly encourage you to check out The Midnight Special from WFMT, on Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to midnight. That’s in addition to two hours of great music on Sunday nights with Folk Alley, Sundays from 10 p.m. to midnight.

With the updated schedule KRPS now brings listeners the most continuous, live coverage in the station's 37-year history. Monday through Friday you can hear live news starting with Morning Edition at 4 a.m. until 2 p.m. with Today, Explained.

Then, starting at 3 p.m. on weekdays, four additional hours of live news from The World from 3 - 4 p.m. and All Things Considered from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

That’s 74 hours of live news coverage and 135 live NPR newscasts weekly. (Many music shows do not offer a newcast cutaway)

Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
