Fred southeast Kansas events

An iCraft Junior Open House will be held on Wednesday, January 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m at the Pittsburg Public Library. This month, kids can unleash their creativity by participating in a Mini Art Show. The library will provide a mini canvas and all the supplies needed to create their very own masterpiece! That’s Wednesday, January 28 starting at 4:00 pm.

The Southeast Kansas Humane Society hosts their 49th annual chili dinner Saturday February 7th at Memorial Auditorium starting at noon. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go towards the animals at the SEK Humane Society. The SEK Humane Societies annual chili cookoff, Saturday February 7th.

The Sperry Gallagher Audubon hosts their monthly meeting Thursday January 29 at 7 pm. January’s speaker is Dr. Delia Lister, head of Pitt State's Nature Reach program. She’ll speak about Bridging Science and Story: Communicating Climate Change in Two Iconic National Parks. That’s Thursday January 29 at 7 pm at PSU’s Yates Hall at 7 pm. The meeting is open to the public.

Fred's southwest Missouri events

The National Seed Swap day is taking place Saturday January 31 at the Joplin Empire Market. You are welcome to bring seeds, but do not have to bring any in order to participate. Dive into a world of comics, collectibles, and cosplay at ArtCon February 7 — Neosho’s ultimate celebration of Comics, Sci-Fi, Anime, Esports, Cosplay. The annual event is hosted by the Neosho Art Council. Art Con takes place at Neosho Junior High school Saturday February 7 starting at 10 am.

The All Ages Black History fair is scheduled for Saturday February 7 starting at 11 am at the Joplin Public Library. Connect with your community, hear from members and organizations in Joplin, and learn about Black history, present, and future in Joplin and beyond. Raegan's southwest Missouri events

January 24th, see Bubble Trouble at the Cornell Complex in Joplin. Guinness World Record holder Jeff Boyer juggles, sculpts and builds with bubbles. The interactive, family-friendly show begins at 2 p.m. Tickets can be bought on the Connect2Culture website or at the box office.

Also at the Cornell Complex, see The Barricade Boys perform Broadway Party on January 29th. The show combines musical theater favorites with pop, rock and Motown hits. Those tickets can also be bought on the Connect2Culture website or at the box office. The show starts at 7 p.m.

And on January 31st and February 1st, the George Washington Carver National Monument is showing a PBS documentary for Black History Month. More Than a Month examines the complexities and contradictions behind Black History Month. The showing starts at 1 p.m. both days.

Raegan's southeast Kansas events

A new exhibit is on display at the Miners Hall Museum in Franklin. Titled Giants of American Grit, it explores the history of the Page 618 Walking Dragline and its connections to Crawford and Cherokee county. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

January 24th, visit In The Garden in Pittsburg for the 4th Street Market. Shop crafts, baked goods, jewelry, clothing and vintage items from local vendors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

And January 27th, the new Pitt State AI Club is hosting a community workshop to discuss AI solutions for the business community. It’s the first of four workshops and will be held at Block22 at 4 p.m.

Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
