Pittsburg police arrest man for domestic abuse, three additional warrants

Hayes had three run-ins with police in Pittsburg and Frontenac in 2021 and 2022. Saturday's arrest was his first this year.

Pittsburg police Saturday responded to a domestic disturbance call directly across the street from Pittsburg State, forcing the campus to lock down. KRPS's Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

According to a press release yesterday, at around 5:12 pm Saturday, Pittsburg police responded to a call in the area of 1504 S. Joplin St,directly across the street from student dorms at Pittsburg State.

The phone call was made by a young female requesting Crawford County EMS services from injuries due to a domestic abuse incident. After an investigation, Pittsburg police determined that20-year-old Issiah Hayeswas a suspect in the domestic disturbance call.

He also had three outstanding warrants for marijuana and failing to appear charges stemming from arrests in 2021 and 2022. Hayes was thought to be armed and barricaded himself in the residence. The Pittsburg Special Response Team was called in and, after several attempts, made entry into the apartment, arresting Hayes.

He's been charged with criminal restraint, interference with a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery, choking in a rude manner, obstruction in felony warrant service or execution, and possession of methamphetamine. He's been held without bond at the Crawford County Jail. For 89 9 KRPS, I'm Fred Fletcher-Fierro
