620 Pride in Pittsburg and Greater, lower Kansas

Downtown Pittsburg, KS
Downtown Pittsburg, KS

Summer officially starts tomorrow but a hallmark of the arrival of the hottest time of the year is 6/20 Day. Also, only 95 days until the start of fall.

Millions of Americans mark April 20 or 4/20 each year, a nod to cannabis culture. In Kansas, we don’t have legal recreational or medical marijuana but we do have 6/20 day.

KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

The City of Pittsburg and the Downtown Advisory Board invite the community to celebrate 620 Day today, June 20 with anAll-Day Celebration and a Downtown Block Party.
The idea of 620 Day comes from Pittsburg’s area code. The purpose of this annual event is to cultivate pride and celebrate the Pittsburg community. There are four area codes in Kansas, 620 covers the vast majority of the southern portion of the Sunflower state, the exception being the greater Wichita area.

Several businesses will celebrate 620 Day all day long with activities, promotions, discounts, and special offers.

To wrap up a full day of celebration, the city is hosting a 620-Day Block Party at 2nd Street & Broadway tonight from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, complete with food, music, vendors, a car show, and much more along Second Street. More than 25 businesses, vendors, organizations, and activities are planned for the block party.
