While driving down an East Texas country road I spotted this scene. The autumn trees and the late afternoon sun made these golden bales of hay shine just a little bit more. Fortunately I had my camera with me. (c) James Q. Eddy Jr.

PSU Football Navigating Busy Homecoming Week with Fort Hayes on the Horizon

Historically Pittsburg State has dominated the series against Fort Hayes with 49 wins to 22 losses. The Gorillas have defeated the Tigers three straight seasons, however, the last ten matchups between the teams have been equally split with 5 wins for each.

Pittsburg State football has won three straight with the team's victory over Nebraska-Kearney this weekend. The win kept the Gorillas in the top 5 of the Division 2 football ranking released Monday.

Pitt State defeated Kearney 20 to 10 on Saturday. The Gorillas have never lost to the Lopers in Kearney since the institution started playing football in the MIAA a decade ago.

Also, according to the latest Division 2 rankings published on d2football.com, the Gorillas remained in exactly the same spot as last week, ranked fourth.

The MIAA has a conference that is well represented in the rankings with three teams in the Top 25. PSU Head Coach Tom Anthony spoke about getting his team focused during Homecoming Week on campus and all the surrounding events.

“It’s a fun week and I encourage our guys to dive into some of that when they have time but obviously what we have on our plate Saturday is the most important thing so our focus needs to try and stay there as much as possible.”

The Gorillas will have their hands full on Saturday when they host an excellent Fort Hayes team that has won two straight including a 38 to 7 win over Washburn last weekend.

Kick-off at Carnie Smith between PSU and Hays on Saturday at 2 pm.
