While driving down an East Texas country road I spotted this scene. The autumn trees and the late afternoon sun made these golden bales of hay shine just a little bit more. Fortunately I had my camera with me. (c) James Q. Eddy Jr.

KRPS Working To Restore Full Programming

After 36-years at Shirk Hall at PSU the station last week embarked on a temporary relocation while the university constructs the station a new home at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

Good Tuesday morning, Fred here,

Over the past week, KPRS/Pittsburg State has received several phone calls, emails, and Facebook messages regarding whether we are going to continue our normal programming schedule. Yes, all the shows you’ve come to love on KRPS like A Way With Words, American Routes, On Point, and Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me... will return to their regular days and times.

Our engineer worked for several hours yesterday to get our system back up and the work will continue today. After 36 years at Shirk Hall at PSU our equipment is a mix of hardware, components, and software, some of which was installed when the station launched in 1988 (believe it or not) to other equipment that has been updated and much newer. We are working to get everything restored and back to normal.

Thank you for your continued patience

Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
