Kansas referee continues to officiate local high school basketball after working first Super Bowl

Dallas Cowboys

Mark Stewart reached the pinnacle of football officiating in February, working Super Bowl 59 as a line judge. That same month, he was also officiating high school basketball games in southeast Kansas.

Stewart, who lives outside of Sedan, Kansas, and graduated from Pittsburg State University, started officiating sports 34 years ago. He started with basketball, working his first football game seven years later.

He gained experience at the Division II level in the MIAA, then the Division I level in the Mountain West, Southland and Big 12 conferences before working for the NFL in 2018.

Although he originally retired from high school basketball a few years before that, he started officiating it again with his son three years ago and has kept with it since, working between 20 and 25 games a season.
