Northwest Missouri and Pittsburg State both open their upcoming seasons against ranked opponents. The No. 23-ranked Bearcats welcome No. 11-ranked Minnesota State from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NSIC) to Maryville, Mo. on Thursday, August 29 and the No. 3-ranked Gorillas will host No. 4-ranked Ferris State from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in a Division II top-five showdown in Pittsburg, Kan. on Saturday, August 31.

Dr. Bechtel knew early that music would become an integral part of her identity. She grew up singing and playing piano in her church in Eureka, KS two hours west of Pittsburg on a cattle ranch listening to a lot of country western music.

Even 70 years after ‘Dial M For Murder’ debuted in May of 1954 the story continues to resonate. The story was recreated as a movie 1998’s, A Perfect Murder starring Micheal Douglas. The sitcom Frasier titled an episode, ‘Dial M for Martin’ that followed a similar plot involving characters during season six.

The Lady Gorillas jumped out to a 15 to 7 first-quarter lead and never trailed. Macie Mays led the team with 17 points, while Grace Pyle had 15 and Karenna Gerber added 10. Pittsburg State women’s basketball drew 22 foul shots, making 19. In comparison, Fort Hays had only 14 shots from the charity stripe, making 11.

The number of people who say they read on a daily basis continues to decline. According to a 2023 study, 28% of children between the ages of 8 and 18 say they read daily. Overall, there has been a 26% decline in reading since 2005 in that age bracket.
