Kansas events -

The Christmas Shoppe in Pittsburg is hosting its annual craft show and tree lighting ceremony on November 1st. In addition to the craft show starting at 9 am, there will also be bounce houses, a petting zoo, face painting, live music, and more.

November 2nd is the last Noches Latinas hosted by the Greenway and Pitt State Hispanics of Today. From 5 to 9 pm there will be food trucks, music and other family friendly activities.

And November 8th, celebrate Cato Days with the Cato Historical Preservation Association. The event starts at 9am and includes music and history presentations, re-enactments, a lunch, wagon rides, and more.

The Pittsburg State Dance Minor presents their Fall Informal Dance Show. This show is choreographed, performed and produced by students. It’s taking place at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts Wednesday November 5 starting at 7 pm. Learn more at events.pittstate.edu

The Pittsburg Public Library and city hall are hosting a Halloween event for kids and family this Friday between 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes are invited to wear their costumes to visit the Library for a trick or a treat. Learn more at pplonline.org

November 6th, the St. Ann Catholic Church in Carthage is hosting its annual chili supper. Food will be served at the Izzy Hulfeld Memorial Gym from 11am to 1pm and 5 to 7 pm. Soup, tamales, pie, coffee and tea will also be available.

And November 8th, the Joplin Public Library is having another book swap. From 1 to 2 pm in the east community room, swap books with other attendees and the library.

Raegan Neufeld is a host and reporter for KRPS. Her love for learning and connecting with interesting people led her to a career in journalism, where she aims to tell impactful stories. Originally from south central Kansas, Raegan attended Fort Hays State University and graduated in December 2024.
Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
