Signet Coffee Roasters was established in Pittsburg in October 2011. This summer, the shop announced the transfer of ownership earlier this summer with social media posts, captioned, “Same coffee. Same family. New Generation.”
Leah and Dennis grew to love coffee after a coffee roastery was established in their town in Minnesota. They noticed a lack of coffee roasteries after moving to Pittsburg. After doing research, the Postericks decided to fill the gap in their new community. They had to learn the art of roasting to create quality coffee.
“It was a work in progress for many, many months. I would say we perfected it after about a year,” Leah said.
Dennis and Leah prioritized quality and fresh coffee beans from the beginning. Dennis used his life motto in the business.
“If you’re not going to do it well, don’t bother doing it,” he said.
Throughout the years, they strived for consistency in their products.
The new owners, Ryan and Rachel, want to carry on the business's legacy of hard work.
“And we want to see that continue for our children. And our children are heavily involved,” Ryan said.
The couple hopes the business will be continued for generations. Since becoming the new owners, Ryan and Rachel said the best part has been interacting with the community.
They're very excited to see that what Dennis and Leah started so many years ago is going to continue on into the future,” Rachel said.
Community feedback has been important to Signet. Ryan wants to continue that practice, because “the community made this business.”
“And really, the future is dependent on the community and what they want from a small business like ours,” Ryan said. Although Dennis and Leah are retired, they still stop by the shop.
Dennis and Leah say they “have no doubt” the new owners will do well.
Signet Coffee Roasters offers a variety of hot and iced beverages and roasted coffee beans for purchase. The shop is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Details about their products can be viewed at signetcoffee.com.
