Regardless of economic uncertainty Casey's expansion continues

Same-store fuel gallons were down 0.5% compared to prior year with a fuel margin of 40.7 cents per gallon. Total fuel gross profit increased 10.4% to $262.6 million compared to the prior year.

Casey's, known for its unique trio of gasoline, pizza, and donuts, held their 3rd quarter earning call Wednesday. The company operates over 500 stores between Kansas and Missouri. KRPS's Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

The convenience store is the 3rd largest in the US, operating over 2,400 stores in 16 states. It's also the 5th largest pizza chain in the country.

On their 3rd quarter conference call Wednesday, the company highlighted that roughly 50% of their stores are located in towns with fewer than 5,000 people.

In Kansas, that represents about 39% of their stores, while in Missouri, it's about 44%—President and CEO of Casey's Darren Rebelez on Wednesday's earning conference call.

"Inside same-store sales were up 5.6% for the third quarter or 13.6% on a two-year stack basis, with an average margin of 40.6%. Same-store grocery and general merchandise sales were up 5.8% or 13.9% on a two-year stack basis. With an average margin of 34%."

2022 was a significant year of acquisitions for Casey's. The company purchased 207 locations in Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Nebraska. At the same time, constructing another 138 new sites throughout the Midwest.

Casey's employs about 43,000 and operates three warehouses, including a location in Joplin, Missouri which opened in April of 2021. For 89 9 KRPS News, I'm Fred Fletcher-Fierro
