Webb City high school announced the hire of their new football head coach Wednesday. The former head coach retired after 26 seasons last month. KRPS's Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
Even before retiring, former Webb City High School Football coach Jon Rodrique was enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame nearly one year ago. Over 26 seasons, Rodrigue earned a record of 304-32, including ten undefeated seasons, dating back to his hiring in 1997.
Before jumping to Class 5 in 2020, Rodrigue led teams that won 12 Class 4 state championships. Prior to that success, Roderique was an All-State linebacker for Webb City in 1985 before playing at Pittsburg State. He was also an All-American linebacker. Rodrigue is replaced by Webb City alum Ryan McFarland, a member of the 2000 state championship team.
He later attended Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, earning a Bachelor's in Education. McFarland started his coaching career in 2006 as a volunteer for Webb City football.
Last season was his first as the Cardinal's offensive coordinator. In a press release posted on Twitter, McFarland especially thanks his wife, Samantha, for letting him chase his dream of being a high school football coach. For 89 9 KRPS News, I'm Fred Fletcher-Fierro
