While we’re in the depths of winter, on the horizon, a little more than a month away is the start of Spring training for the St. Louis Cardinals. To get fans excited about the upcoming season, the Cardinals Caravan returned to Joplin for the first time in two-season. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

On the one hand, St. Louis had a very successful 2022 season. They won the National League Central by seven games over the second-place Brewers and 19 games over their rival, the Chicago Cubs.

Expectations were high going into their three-game playoff against the Philly, who promptly swept the Cards out of the playoffs, two games to zero. Saturday at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, the Cards invited fans to see some of their favorite current and former players, including right fielder Lars Nootbaar who is originally from southern California and is amazed by fan support of the Cardinals throughout Missouri.

“It’s awesome; it’s my first time doing it; last year we had the lockout, the year before we had COVID, so this is my first time doing it, and it’s pretty awesome to see. I don’t take the fans for granted, but when you get to see them face to face, and you get to shake hands with them and stuff, it’s really cool, man.”

The Cards open the regular season at homeagainst the Blue Jays on Thursday, March 30. For 89 KRPS News, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
