This weekend, a local non-profit held a bake sale to raise money to purchase a driving simulator for refugees. KRPS's Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
On Saturday, the Joplin Interfaith Coalition raised $10,012 with the help of 53 vendors, volunteers, and businesses selling their goods.
The event was held at the Islamic Society of Joplin, also known as the Joplin Mosque. The mosque was destroyed by arson in 2012. It was reconstructed and reopened two years later.
The event Saturday enjoyed broad support from local small businesses, including Dianna's bloom cakes, Farmhouse and Finn's Bakery, Sweet Emotions in Webb City, Coffee from Zinc, Frosted Cakeries, Lights of hope, and Interfaith T-shirts made by Faiqa.
In addition, Dr. Tabassum Saba, a Psychiatry Specialist from Joplin, MO was on hand selling and signing copies of her book, King Raja: Bow To The King.

The proceeds from Saturday's sales will be given to RAISE, the southwest Missouri-based Refugees and Immigrant Services & Education. The event was a collaboration between the Islamic Society of Joplin, the United Hebrew Congregation, and South Joplin Christian Church. For 89 9 KRPS News, I'm Fred Fletcher-Fierro
