Travelers Enjoying Cheaper Fuel Prices this Year

This year’s Thanksgiving forecast is an increase of 2.3% over last year and marks the third-highest Thanksgiving forecast since AAA began tracking holiday travel in 2000. The top two years were 2005 and 2019.

For the ninth consecutive week, the nation’s average price of gasoline has declined, as Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas have some of the least expensive gas prices in the country.

According to data compiled by fuel tracking website, GasBuddy.com from more than 12 million individual price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country prices are down 6.2 cents from last week, averaging $3.27 per gallon.

The national average is down 25.9 cents from a month ago and 36.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The cost of a gallon of gas is even lower in Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas. In Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas gas is averaging $2.87 per gallon.

In Kansas, prices are slightly higher at $2.99. Oil prices fell for their fourth straight week last week but closed out the week with a strong rally that’s continuing into this week. The states with the highest average prices are California, Hawaii, and Washington.

The states with the lowest average prices are Mississippi, Texas, and Oklahoma. 55.4 million Americansare expected to travel 50 miles or more to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.
