Missouri Community College to Add New Sport Next Year

Currently Crowder College offers four men’s sports, baseball, cross country, golf and soccer. While CC supports five women’s athletic programs, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer and softball.

Last week, the Crowder College Board of Trustees voted to approve a new sport at the community college.

According to a press release, the Board of Trustees approved the addition of Men’s and Women’s Distance Track at their monthly meeting on Monday, December 4.

The decision was made at the recommendation of Athletic Director, Brandi Arthur who said of the addition, “Our cross-country program has grown since we started it in the fall of 2022. Adding Distance Track in the spring provides another opportunity for our student-athletes to compete at the college level, and to grow Roughrider Athletics and enrollment overall” .

Jake Holt, Crowder’s Cross Country Coach, will serve as head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs which compete in the Division I National Junior College Athletic Association. The Distance Track Program will focus on events ranging from the 800-meter run up to the 10,000-meter distance.

The Crowder College Roughrider athletic programs currently have 10 sports with 212 student-athletes. Distance Track and Field would increase that number by 20, with the addition of 10 men and 10 women rounding out the roster
