This morning, acting Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe is visiting southeast Missouri. The site of severe storms on Sunday. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
In his capacity as Missouri's Acting Governor, Kehoe traveled to Sikeston and the surrounding areas to assess storm damage in the area and better learn what state resources may be needed to help impacted communities respond and recover.
Acting Governor Kehoe will be joined by State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Director Jim Remillard as well as members from the Office of the Governor.
Kehoe's visit will be primarily focused on the Sikeston area where at least one storm-related fatality has been reported and numerous instances of damaged homes and businesses. He will be joined by the Mayor of Sikeston, Greg Turnbow.
Sikeston was so badly damaged by the storm Saturday night that the city implemented a curfew inside the city limits from 8 am until 6 pm.
As of last night, according to PowerOutage.us about 17% of Scott County where Sikeston is located, or 2,700 residents, remained without power. Lieutenant Governor Kehoe is serving as Acting Governor through June 4.
