The MIAA held its 2024 Hall of Fame ceremony in Kansas City on Monday with a total of four inductees from Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern.
KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
A pair of former All-America Pittsburg State University student-athletes – football All-American Nate Dreiling and women's basketball All-American Dani (Fronabarger) Robinson – and legendary former cross country/track & field coach Russ Jewett were inducted among the MIAA Hall of Fame Class of 2024 this week at conferences Awards Celebration.
The three Gorillas were joined by Missouri Southern’s David Fisher. He was a two-time All-American in baseball, including first-team honors as a senior in 1992. He was twice a first-team All-MIAA and first-team all-region selection. In 1992, Fisher was also the regional MVP. Fisher shared what was being inducted into the MIAA Hall of Fame.
“You think it’s validation, you’re alright. I mean, it is such an honor, especially from the conference. It’s an unexpected honor for sure. And so, to me, every individual honor is backed by a team, and so I had four really good teams that I played on.”
Fisher now holds or shares four Missouri Southern baseball records including career marks for doubles (62), sacrifice flies (18), and assists (555). He is one of six Lions to record two triples in a single game, doing so against Minnesota-Morris on March 1, 1990.
