The Joplin City Council will meet tonight, starting at 5:30. However they won’t be getting together at their normal space at city hall. They will be meeting at Ewert Park.
To try and lower the barriers of access to elected officials, tonight is the first of four meetings that will take place outside of city hall.
The meetups are considered work sessions, with no formal business, no votes, or presentations. Also, there will be no agenda posted, or minutes taken.
Tonight, Council members Chuck Copple, Mark Farnham, Doris Carlyn, and city staff will be on hand to meet with residents and business owners. In advance of the meeting, city staff will set up tables, chairs, and portable microphones for the public to use. Small refreshments will be provided.
After a year, city staff will prepare a summary of activity from the Council in the Park engagements and report findings to the City Council to see what, if any, changes need to be made to strengthen engagement efforts. Meetings will be held every three months for a year.
The next one is scheduled for Monday, January 13 of next year at the Joplin Historical Museum.
