Lions Seek First Conference Win This Weekend

Historically, Missouri Southern football is 21-28-1 against Washburn. Last season's victory over the Ichabods snapped a seven-season losing streak. The last time MSSU football defeated Washburn in consecutive seasons was 1996 and 1997 when the Lions defeated WashU by a combined four points.

Missouri Southern football is still searching for their first conference win this season. The Lions travel up to Topeka to take on the Ichabods on Saturday.

Southern football has taken a step back this season. After earning an overall record of 5 and 6 last season, and 4 and 6 in the MIAA the Lions remain winless in the MIAA going into week eight.

Last week, while scoring a season-high 30 points against the 17th-ranked Emporia Hornets, they gave up 49 points in the loss. Southern threw the ball 48 times in Saturday's loss. Head Coach Atiba Bradley, speaking on 1007. FM The Vault Wednesday evening was asked what led to so many pass attempts.

"Yea, but some of those are a little deceiving. So a couple were jets sweeps which go down as passes. Then a couple of them were catch the ball now screens where you’re just throwing it out, which are just really, for us that’s our version of stretch.”

The Lions play the first of two road games. First heading up to Topeka to take on Washburn. That will be followed by a game against Fort Hays State in Hayes on Saturday, October 26. Both are 1 pm kickoffs.
