You may have noticed over the past week that gas prices have risen.
However, this has little to do with the price of gas in the US and the rise of heating oil as winter sets in across North America.
KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
According to the Triple A oil costs are hovering around $80 a barrel and that has helped push the national average for a gallon of gas four cents higher since last week to $3.10.
Meanwhile, the national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained at 34 cents. It has remained at or near 34 cents for the past five months. According to a recent press release issued by Triple A, spokesperson Andrew Gross quote, “Global oil prices have surged due to strong winter heating fuel demand and new U.S. sanctions against Russia’s energy sector. Oil costs account for 56% of what you pay at the pump. So, more expensive oil leads to more expensive gas.” unquote.
Closer to home, Kansas, Missouri Arkansas, and Oklahoma all rank in the top of ten least expensive fuel prices in the country. Oklahoma is the cheapest at $2.70 a gallon, followed by Arkansas at $2.71.
While Kansas ranks third at $2.77, and Missouri is the most expensive at $2.79. On the day that President Trump is sworn into office for the second time, Triple A reports that the average gallon of 87 octane fuel costs $3.10.
