10-year-old Joplin Actor Attends Grammy Awards As Nominee

For Tristan Wilder Hallett, the memory of his first concert is one that’s sure to stick with him. It just so happened to be this year’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, where he was nominated for Best Opera Recording.

Hallett played Danny Torrance in the Lyric Opera Kansas City production of Paul Moravec’s “The Shining,” which is based on the Stephen King novel. The show had a limited run in March 2023 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, where the performances were recorded.

According to The Pitch, it was the first time an original cast recording of an opera or musical took place in the Kansas City region. The recording was then released in April 2024 and nominated for the Grammy in November. Hallett attended the award ceremony on February 2 with his mother, Laurel.

The San Francisco Symphony production of “Adriana Mater” won the Grammy for Best Opera Recording.
