This Friday, Quilts of Valor will be presented to selected local Veterans. The quilts were created by members of the Sew 'N Sew Quilt Guild in partnership with the local chapter of Quilts of Valor Foundation. The Bells of the Balkans, Pittsburg's award-winning hand bell ensemble, will present its 15th annual "Ring in the Season" concert November 30th, 3 P.M., in the Pittsburg Presbyterian sanctuary located at 5th and Pine. This year's concert is entitled "Santa's Gift" and depicts a special Christmas Eve offering to Santa. The concert is open to the public. Join Missouri Southern State Universities Concert Band for a winter concert. Showcasing the talents of student musicians, the concert highlights the energy, precision, and artistry of the wind band tradition. It takes place Sunday November 23 starting at 7:30 pm. Trinity Lutheran Church located in Freistatt, Missouri will be presenting “Journey of Promises”, a Christmas cantata Saturday December 20. The performance will include up to 45 voices from the surrounding communities bringing the Christmas message in songs. Visit Trinity1874.com to learn more about this performance.

The Southeast Kansas Arts Community is hosting another Sketchjam on November 15th. It will be at the Painted Turtle Art Gallery in Pittsburg from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Some materials will be provided, but attendees are also encouraged to bring their own. Click here to learn more about this event.

November 16th, take a cheese making class at the McCune Farm to Market. The class will be taught by Kathy Flora of Flora Farm Produce and costs 40 dollars. Call 620-232-1772 to reserve a spot.

And November 18th is the monthly book discussion at the Pittsburg Public Library. Starting at 1:30 pm, this month’s meeting will be a Book Potluck for attendees to discuss what they’ve read so far this year.

November 15th is the annual Downtown Webb City Holiday Merry Market. From 8 am to 4 pm, shop sales and specials at participating stores and additional vendors. Each purchase will give you an entry in a drawing for a grand prize Holiday Gift Basket.

November 16th, see A Life in Song: A Concert with International Singer Terrence O’Brien, presented by Heartland Opera Theatre. The concert will start at 2 pm in Corley Auditorium at Missouri Southern and feature guest artist Madison King.

And November 18th, the Joplin Public Library is hosting an all ages game night from 5:30 to 7 pm. It will be in the library’s community room. Bring your own games or play the board and card games provided.

Raegan Neufeld is a host and reporter for KRPS. Her love for learning and connecting with interesting people led her to a career in journalism, where she aims to tell impactful stories. Originally from south central Kansas, Raegan attended Fort Hays State University and graduated in December 2024.
Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
