A bird flu outbreak at the largest U.S. chicken egg producer could affect egg prices
Cal-Maine Foods lost about 1.9 million chickens, or 3.6% of its flock, as a result of an outbreak at a Texas plant. The CDC says, however, that a person is unlikely to get bird flu from eggs.
2 new exhibits open Saturday at the Springfield Art Museum
Breath, Light, and Distance and Renaissance Works on Parchment and Paper will run through September 1, the last day the museum is open to the public before it closes for an extended period for renovations.
Opposition In Venezuela Calls For Another Round Of Elections
Gubernatorial elections in Venezuela delivered a majority of seats to the ruling socialists, rocking the opposition and reigniting protests. The opposition cited irregularities in their 17-6 seat loss. Shortages of food and medicine coupled with massive inflation have fueled widespread anger.

The SEC votes March 6 on adopting long-awaited rules that would require publicly-traded companies in the U.S. to disclose information about the risks they face from climate change.

Middle schoolers are lauded for protecting younger kids during church shooting
Harper Moyski, age 10, and Fletcher Merkel, age 8, were killed, and 18 children between the ages 6 and 15 were injured by a shooter. Middle schoolers acted heroically to protect others, a parent said.

Nation's Jobless Rate Hits A 14-Year High
The Labor Department reports that the nation's unemployment rate rose 6.5 percent last month. The number of jobs lost were a lot higher than expected. The report indicates that the downturn in the economy this year has been even deeper and more dramatic than most economists had expected. The jobless rate is at a 14-year high.
