The Gorillas have now won nine in a row, including last year's season finale when they defeated Fort Hays State 27 to 17. On Monday, the latest American Football Coaches Association Poll was released, and Pittsburg State remains ranked fifth in the country.
Grand Valley State in Michigan received 28 of the 30 first-place votes this week. Head coach Brian Wright spoke with 100.7 FM ESPN Radio on Monday evening about Saturday's win over Missouri Western.
"We didn't start out the football game very good necessarily. Really in all three phases and just a little sluggish. We talked about that after the game that as a football team, we've got to prepare a little bit better and make sure that we're ready to come out and start and play a little bit better at the beginning of the game."
Pittsburg State football has a two-game lead over three teams tied for second place with three games remaining. The Gorillas are on the road this Saturday taking on Central Oklahoma. Kick-off in Edmond at 2 pm.
