The transition to college or university can be one of the most challenging experiences for a high school graduate, a working mother or father, or an international student who has left home to move southeast Kansas to attend PSU. Add that to being the first person in your family to go to college which can create an even higher barrier to enrolling and following through with graduation.
Southeast Kansas native and Pittsburg State alum Megan Stoneberger Johnson understands how difficult the transition can be, as the first person in her family to attend a college or university in 2009. Today, she’s the coordinator of a pilot program, SparkWheel working to ease that transition for all students regardless of their circumstances.
Stoneberger Johnson recently spoke with KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro about her college journey, from Labette Community College to Pittsburg State to now helping students have a successful experience at her alma mater.
Students interested in connecting with Johnson may reach her at megan.johnson@pittstate.edu or may drop by the Office of Inclusion & Belonging in the lower level of the Overman Student Center M-F, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or may call 620-235-4927
