PSU’s Brian Wright Looks Ahead to a Bright Future After Another Successful Season

Derek Livingston Pittsburg State University

The past two seasons Pittsburg State football has an overall record of 23 and 2 under Wright. Losing both seasons in the second round of the D2 NCAA playoffs by a combined six points.

Pittsburg State football dropped their second-round NCAA playoff game this past weekend. Head coach Brian Wright spoke about the game Monday night.

Earning a record of 11 and 2 by all accounts is a great season in the MIAA, although after going 12 and 1 last season, and losing to the eventual Division 2 Champs, Ferris State in the second round, Pittsburg State football and head coach Brian Wright had unfinished business this season.

The Gorillas once again traveled to Central Michigan to take on Grand Valley State, who knocked off Ferris State in the first round of the playoffs.

Wright speaking Monday on ESPN Radio 100.7 FM in Pittsburg says his players knew they were facing a tough team in Grand Valley on Saturday.

“Our guys, again, I think a year ago we certainly left the state of Michigan with a bad taste in our mouth and when we had the opportunity to go back we knew it was going to be against a really good football team and those two teams have been battling it out for a long time, Grand Valley and Ferris have, and our guys certainly had a good week of practice.”

Both MIAA teams were eliminated last week as Harding University in Arkansas defeated Central Missouri 35 to 34.

The Mules and the Gorillas were co-MIAA champions this season. Each with records 11 and 2.
