While the Lady Gorillas expect to be in the upper tier of MIAA WBB teams they have their work cut out for them with Northwest Missouri (7-0), Central Missouri (7-0), and Fort Hays (6-0) State undefeated.

Pittsburg State women’s basketball is off to a hot start this season with an overall record of six and one. However, the Lady Gorillas are currently in sixth place in the very competitive MIAA.

PSU women’s basketball coach Amanda David in her sixth year as head coach is looking to lead the Lady Gorillas back to the NCAA playoffs after MIAA rival Missouri Southern State University in Joplin bounced Pittsburg State from the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Central Regionals last season.

While standout guard and Mt. Vernon, Missouri native Lacy Stoke transferred from MSSU to Missouri State in the off-season the Lady Gorillas are going to have their work cut out for them with already one loss in MIAA conference play this season in a league that still has three undefeated teams.

Amanda David speaking on 100.7 FM ESPN Radio Monday about the season so far.

“We just want to move the basketball. Our assist are low right now and are turnovers are high, and I think that’s two areas I wasn’t concerned about at the start just cause I thought you know it’s early and we’re scoring, and its going to be fine but I think it’s more and more something that we need to pay attention to.”

Pitt State women’s basketball dropped their first game of the season this past weekend to Northwest Missouri on the road to a 69 to 59.

Both PSU basketball teams return to action this Thursday hosting the Newman Jets at John Lance Arena.

The women play at 5:30 and the men take the floor at 7:30.
