The Lady Gorillas will play five of their final nine games this season on the road ahead of the MIAA Tournament scheduled to start on Wednesday, March 6 in Kansas City, MO.

Pittsburg State women’s basketball has nine games remaining in MIAA conference play. Half of those games are against teams ahead of them in the standings. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

This year's Lady Gorillas would have to go undefeated for the rest of the season to match last year's squad that earned a 17 and 5 record in MIAA play.

What has hurt the team this season are two losses against Washburn and Emporia who sit directly behind Pitt State in the MIAA conference standings. Currently, Pittsburg State women’s basketball has a conference record of 8 and 5 and will likely be invited to the MIAA Women's Basketball Championships in Kansas City in March.

Head Coach Amanda David, speaking Monday on ESPN Radio 100.7 FM in Pittsburg, talked about snapping a recent three-game losing streak and winning both games last week.

“It feels good. Period. Winning is awesome and losing stinks. And so, anytime you can get wins and get back on track and get some positive energy going I think it helps your practices. I think it helps the energy in the locker room.”

Also on Monday, PSU junior forward Karenna Gerber garnered MIAA Player of the Week accolades. She averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds last week. The Lady Gorillas are next in action this Thursday in Edmond, taking on Central Oklahoma.
