Pittsburg State’s first week zero game was a bruiser on paper. Hosting the number three ranked Ferris State Bulldogs. The last time these two teams met Ferris defeated Pittsburg State 17 to 14 in the second round of the NCAA playoffs in late November 2022.

The Gorillas had an opportunity to win that game, and they squandered them. This past Saturday was a different story. In fact, the Gorillas never trailed on Saturday on the way to a 19 to 3 victory.

First-year Head Coach Tom Anthony spoke about the upcoming game this Saturday against rival Missouri Southern.

“My message to them Sunday was we gotta block out all the noise cause there’s gonna be a lot of noise. Obviously your cell phone, you're around a lot of people saying a lot of things to you that you don’t need to worry about, about where we're at, this point in the season. Where they think we might be able to go.”

Missouri Southern football last defeated Pittsburg State on November 16, 2013. Kick-off this Saturday in Joplin is at 7 pm.
