After 36-Years at Shirk Hall, KRPS is Going Off the Air Today and Moving

Pittsburg State University Special Collections & University Archives
Pictured is KRPS's first General Manager, Frank Baker standing in front of Shirk. The building was originally constructed in 1958 as a men's only dorm and renovated in 1988 to house KRPS.

The planned outage will affect both FM broadcast and online streaming.

Hello friends,

The day is finally here! KRPS is moving from its home of over 36 years, Shirk Hall, at Pittsburg State. Later this morning, we will go off the air as we move our critical broadcasting components to the 2nd floor of Grubbs Hall, our temporary home for nine months while PSU constructs a new home for us at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

We will update our website and Facebook page to keep you posted when we resume normal station operations.

Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
