KRPS Airs Special Programming Due To Networking Issue

The station lost the ability to air live programming over the weekend when troubling shooting severe audio drop outs. KRPS hopes to resume live shows and normal programming schedule later this morning.

Good Monday Morning, Fred here. I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Last Friday we had some severe network issues that continues to prevent KRPS from airing live shows. As a result I've scheduled five hours working of special programming this morning from 5 to 10 am.

5 - 6 am - Road To Rickwood from NPR member station New Orleans Public Radio.
On June 20 2024, Major League Baseball will host a regular season game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama. But the 114-year-old stadium has a long and complicated history.

6 - 8 am - We'll air two-hours of music and songs remembering and appreciating Veterans. Host Paul Ingles presents songs from Johnny Cash, Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, Guy Clark, Judy Collins, Mary Gauthier and many more in this heart-felt salute to veterans of all wars.

8 - 9 am - A replay of Road To Rickwood, instead you weren't up at 5 am.

9 - 10 am - A special episode from The Pulse: Conversations with Veterans.
There are 19 million veterans in the U.S. who have served in the armed forces. For many, the military gave them a sense of shared purpose, a strong connection to their comrades. But that community often disappears when they get out of the service, leaving many feeling alone, or misunderstood.

I hope to have our network issues resolved later this morning and return to normal programming. I'll update our Facebook when we get there.

Thanks for your continued patience.

Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
