In Kansas, state law requires polling places to open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on election day. And in Missouri, polling places open at 6:00 a.m. and remain open until 7:00 p.m. Click here to find your polling place.

Throughout the month of October, KRPS’s Rachel Schelle spoke with many of the candidates for the city commission and school board. In addition to attending a candidate forum in Pittsburg and an information session surrounding the ½ cent sales increase in Lamar. Schelle spoke with Morning Edition host Fred Fletcher-Fierro to debrief all three contests.

Rachel Schnelle is a Feature Reporter for KRPS. Originally from Southwest Missouri, she has almost three years of experience working at Midwest Public Radio stations - covering healthcare, community-driven stories, and politics. In 2022, she graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
