Joplin PD locate shooting suspect after chase leads them in Kansas

Kastler is being held in Cherokee County, KS on allegations of Attempted Capital Murder, Attempting Killing of a Police Dog, Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Possession of Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia, Fleeing Law Enforcement and several other traffic violations.

Joplin Police released an update Saturday regarding an investigation to locate a suspect in a shooting earlier this month. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

According to a press release Saturday by the JPD, on Tuesday, February 7 at about 4:40 am Joplin’s Emergency Call Center received a report of a shooting at 909 S. Monroe Avenue.

Officers responded and located an adult male who had been shot. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The suspect, 35 year old Adam E. Kastler of Joplin fled before officers arrived. This past Friday night at around 11:20 JPD attempted to conduct a high-risk traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Tahoe near 2315 W. 7th Street.

Officers believed Kastler was an occupant inside the vehicle. During the stop, Kastler forcefully stole the vehicle from the owner and fled the scene from officers. During the pursuit, Kastler fired multiple gunshots at pursuing Joplin Police Officers. The pursuit entered Kansas and the suspect vehicle crashed west of Galena.

Kastler had active felony warrants out of Newton County and a warrant for Failure to Appear. Kastler was taken into custody without further incident and transferred to Kansas law enforcement officials where he is being held. For 89 9 KRPS News, I’m Fred Fletcher-Fierro
