Kansas Native & PSU Professor of Music, Lydia Bechtel on Cultivating a Passion for Music

Dr. Bechtel knew early that music would become an integral part of her identity. She grew up singing and playing piano in her church in Eureka, KS two hours west of Pittsburg on a cattle ranch listening to a lot of country western music.

This week on the Crimson & Gold Connection KRPS’s Matthew Witt speaks with Pittsburg State Associate Professor of Music Dr. Lydia Bechtel. They touch on numerous subjects including how music has been a constant influence in Betchtel’s life and she became interested in opera.

This June, the music faculty of Pittsburg State, including Bechtel will hold a two-day summer Vocal camp for music teachers and best practices for how to teach young musicians. The event will be held at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts at PSU from Sunday, June 19 through Monday, June 20.

The camp is one of several being held at Pittsburg State this summer. Click this link to learn more about all of the camps being held at PSU later this year.
