PSU's Bicknell Center Celebrates 10-Years, Announces Programming Lineup

The national tour of a hit Broadway show, a popular ‘90s band, events especially for students, and several locally produced concerts and plays are on tap at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts as part of this season's programming.

Later this year the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts at Pittsburg State will mark its first decade in operation.

Last week, the center announced its upcoming 2024 – 2025 schedule.

The 96,000-square-foot center opened with a ribbon cutting on Dec. 7, 2014, and was celebrated with a gala event grand opening held in March of 2015.

The national tour of a hit Broadway show, a popular ‘90s band, events especially for students, and several locally produced concerts and plays are on tap at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts as part of this season's programming.

The first event scheduled for Saturday, September 7 is the ‘90s cover band, Bill and Monica Excellent Adventure. Tickets for Broadways the Adams Family go on sale Monday, September 9. This show, comprised of a professional cast and based on the iconic television show, will stop in Pittsburg for one night only, Feb. 22, 2025.

Also, the 14th Annual Midwest Trumpet Festival will draw in professional musicians, trumpet teachers, students, and enthusiasts from across the region on Oct. 6-7.

The Pitt State Theatre and the Music Department will collaborate to produce “A Little Night Music,” a Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim. Planned for Oct. 25-27, it will be directed by Linden Little with music direction by Patrick Howle and will explore the nature of desire and regret.

Since 2017 Fred Fletcher-Fierro has driven up Highway 171 through thunderstorms, downpours, snow, and ice storms to host KRPS’s Morning Edition. He’s also a daily reporter for the station, covering city government, elections, public safety, arts, entertainment, culture, sports and more. Fred has also spearheaded and overseen a sea change in programming for KRPS from a legacy classical station to one that airs a balance of classical, news, jazz, and cultural programming that better reflects the diverse audience of the Four States. For over two months in the fall of 2022 he worked remotely with NPR staff to relaunch krps.org to an NPR style news and information website.

In the fall of 2023 Fred was promoted to Interim General Manager and was appointed GM in Feburary of 2024.
