On Sunday, it was announced that Pittsburg State football would host the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds in the first round of the NCAA Division II football playoffs. KRPS's Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.
The Gorillas completed an 11-0 season this past weekend with a 35-14 victory over Fort Hays State. The Mid-America Intercollegiate Association football champs earned the No. 3 seed in the seven-team Super Region Three.
Pitt State will host the 9-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference champion, the University of Indianapolis, Saturday. Speaking to PSU football play-by-play announcer Eddie Lomshek Monday night on ESPN Radio 100.7, Head Coach Brian Wright reflected on Saturday's win.
"Credit to our guys again. You're coming into a situation where you already won the league outright, you know you're going to the playoffs already, you have 18-22-year-olds, and sometimes, it's easy for those guys to lose focus, and our guys did not."
Tickets for this weekend's game went on sale Monday. The Gorillas are making their 19th trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs - their first berth in 2014. They've posted a 25-16 record in NCAA postseason play.
