Joplin Police report a 6% decline in service calls for 2022

Overall crime based on the number of service calls received by Joplin Police trended downward in 2022. Although there were more reported assaults (454), including assaults on law enforcement (31). At the same time the number of reported robberies declined to 33, a drop of 15 from 2021.

Earlier this week, the Joplin Police Department released its comprehensive 2022 annual report. KRPS’s Fred Fletcher-Fierro has more.

The report released Tuesday shows that overall crime in Joplin was down six percent from 2021 to 2022 determined by the number of calls for service to JPD. That decline in calls for service balloons from six percent to over 20 percent when you compare 2019 numbers to figures released this week.

In 2019, Joplin Police received 90,223 calls. Last year that number was down to 73,755. Traffic crashes also continued to decline in Joplin last year. A 4.2 percent drop from 2021 to 2022. When compared to 2019 number, Joplin Police report an over 24 percent decline in the number of car crashes in 2022.

The largest drop in crime statistics from 2019 to 2022 was in drug and alcohol crime. In 2019, Joplin recorded 1664 calls. Last year that number dropped to just 879. A near 62% decline.
