Melodee Colbert-Kean made history in 2013 as the first Black woman to hold the position in the city. Now, almost thirteen years later, she is a restaurateur and a prominent leader and connector in the city and community. KRPS’ Rachel Schnelle spoke with her about her experience as a woman in leadership.

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization for Union Army, Union Navy, and Marine veterans of the American Civil War. Established in 1866 in Decatur, Illinois, it had "posts" across the North and West. It disbanded in 1956 upon the death of its last member, Albert Woolson.

The event is held in conjunction with Gem Days in Diamond, MO also taking place Saturday September 9.

The two intend to finish the project by the beginning of next year.
