Shirk Hall has been many things since its building in 1958, including the KRPS home. However, it was initially constructed as a men's dormitory. Four men lived there in the sixties and say they valued the experiences in the dorm.

According to SFS Architects the city has three options regarding Memorial Hall. Stabilize and mothball the structure for $8.7 million. Rehabilitate and make the building suitable for the public for a price of at least 28 million dollars. Or pay $4.8 million to demolish the 100-year-old hall and make plans for the site's future use.

The new fire headquarters is currently estimated to cost $19 million, while the new police department is calculated to cost as high as $44.8 million and a new structure for the courts department will cost residents about $4.5 million.

Even 70 years after ‘Dial M For Murder’ debuted in May of 1954 the story continues to resonate. The story was recreated as a movie 1998’s, A Perfect Murder starring Micheal Douglas. The sitcom Frasier titled an episode, ‘Dial M for Martin’ that followed a similar plot involving characters during season six.

According to MoDOT, 989 fatalities occurred on Missouri roadways in 2023. This is a decrease of 6% when compared to 2022 when there were 1,057 fatalities. This is the first year since 2019 that Missouri has seen a decrease in roadway fatalities.
